Why Sell Popcorn?

• Scouts gain confidence, salesmanship and communication skills, and a sense of accomplishment. The popcorn sale is not about selling popcorn, it’s about promoting Scouting and the Scouting ideals!

• Units have the ability to fund their entire year’s program through the popcorn sale alone (45% of selling Units last year achieved this). We have also changed the ordering guidelines and Units are allowed to order by container and not by the full case (Take Order only). This reduces the risk of having left over product at the end of the sale.

• The popcorn sale helps the Council raise money for improving the summer camp facilities/building new camp locations, offering more extensive training for our volunteer leaders and members, and helping us get to know and serve the needs of our volunteers and Units better.

How to Sell Popcorn

There are three different ways to sell Popcorn as a unit. Show and sell is a direct sale that takes place outside of a local business, where Scouts interact directly with community members and encourage them to buy popcorn. Take order is an order and fulfilment process that takes place in your neighborhood, where Scouts go door-to-door and ask for popcorn orders that are fulfilled at a later date. Online sales are also available and can be used to raise funds for your unit no matter where the customer is located.

Show and Sell

If your unit is engaging in a Show and Sell, you will need to first identify a local business where you can sell. Your unit should order their inventory by the show and sell deadline of August 29, 2018 and pick it up on September 15, 2018. You may sell the product however you see fit. Any unsold product may be used to fulfill Take Order sales, but may not be returned to the council.

Here are a few useful resources to help your unit have a successful Show and Sell:

Take Order

If your unit is engaging in a Take Order Sale, you will need to get order forms for your Scouts at the Popcorn Kickoff. There are four popcorn kickoffs during the summer, so feel free to choose the one that is most convenient for your Unit Kernel. Your Scouts can take orders until their unit's deadline , when all order forms must be turned in to the Unit Kernel. The Unit Kernel enters these orders into the online order system by the Take Order Deadline of October 25, 2018 and picks it up on November 10, 2018.

Online Sales

The easiest way to sell Popcorn is Online.  Just go to Trails-End.Com and register for your Scout’s personal Online Selling Page or Login and update your Scout’s information if you have sold Popcorn Online before.

The Popcorn Selling Cycle

The Annual Popcorn Sale runs from June to December each year. Unit Kernels are trained in June and invited to Council Kickoffs in July. Units should hold their kickoffs and begin selling in August, with sales wrapping up in October. Prizes and recognition are ordered in November and December.

Unit Popcorn Kickoffs

One of the key responsibilities of the Unit Popcorn Kernel is setting up the Unit Popcorn Kickoff. This is an event at the unit level to get Scouts and their families excited about the popcorn sale.

Here are some important documents to review prior to your unit kickoff:
